It is not words and promises that speak for a politician, but actions. Will Ivan Bartoš soon have the opportunity to prove that he can translate his visions regarding the reform of cannabis laws into reality? Is Prohibition coming to an end? We talked about all this and much more in a very open conversation.
How do you think today’s Czech society perceives cannabis?
I am convinced that the attitude of politicians and part of the public towards cannabis is quite hypocritical. Our society is very tolerant of substances like alcohol and tobacco that are legal, taxed and relatively affordable. But cannabis, which is demonstrably less harmful than the above-mentioned drugs and in many cases can also be said to have medicinal effects, has a negative attitude. At the same time, according to a study by the National Monitoring Center for Drugs and Addiction, at least once a year every 800,000 inhabitants of the Czech Republic use cannabis in some way, most often in the form of an ointment.
